New Addition to the Homestead: Alpine Goats

I recently got two Alpine Goats from a local goat farm to add to my home property. These wethers are around 6 months old, and I have had them for almost 2 months. They are warming up to us more each week. The plan for these goats is to rotationally graze them on my home and cabin property to thin the underbrush. This will make the space more useable, fire-safe, and aesthetically pleasing. Goats are browsers, which means they eat leaves of woody material. This makes them perfect for my use case.

I chose the alpine goat breed because I wanted a full-size goat. When they are fully grown in a couple of years, I will also have the potential to use them as pack animals. While this is not the primary purpose of the goats, I want to have the option once they reach the appropriate age.

Over the coming months, I plan to share my perspective as a beginning goat owner on my pen setup, rotational grazing setup, and other lessons and failures.
