The Sufficient Natural is an informational blog centered around self-sufficiency, general preparedness, and the natural environment. Within this blog, you will find information about personal projects, tools, outdoor equipment, and the local environment I live in.
I have lived in Southern Oregon for the past 6 years. This area is one of the most biodiverse regions in the Pacific Northwest, and arguably the country. The confluence of the Cascade mountain range and the Siskiyou mountain range (a sub-range of the greater Klamath Mountain region) holds a unique geological foundation for various plant species, sometimes found nowhere else. In 2022 my fiance and I were fortunate enough to purchase a piece of off-grid property nestled in the Siskiyou Mountains. We built a small cabin there where we can spend weekends connected to this unique landscape with plenty of projects to do.
Through college, I gained certifications in swiftwater and technical ropes rescue, wilderness first responder, and courses gained towards avalanche rescue. I have spent summers working on a backcountry trail and wildland fire crew, spending extended periods working in remote environments. These certifications and different professional experiences laid the foundation for a general preparedness and emergency-based mindset. In town, I have worked as a handyman for hire building small-scale projects for customers, and spent a year on a grounds crew for an arborist company. I spend most of my free time working on my cabin and exploring the local ecoregion.
I write this blog for the regular person. I am not an expert in any category. I am a regular guy with a curious mind and diverse skill set, which I have collected from my upbringing and different odd jobs throughout the years. I have always considered myself to be a jack of all trades, yet a master of none. I have spent countless hours gathering information and experience about the topics and projects I write about. I aim to provide all of this information in one place and make it the source I wish I had when setting out on different endeavors. Besides articles, there is a link to a product page that links to downloadable plans for my projects. This blog will become a sufficient resource as you set out on similar pursuits.
